Hannah Margaret McCrary " Missie" Davis, 89, passed away Oct.
23, 2009, at the family home.
Born in Philadelphia on Dec. 12, 1919, she was a lifelong United
Methodist. Missie was very active in children's education, teaching church kindergarten for many
years. She was a graduate of Virginia Intermont College and attended Vanderbilt University where she
was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alma
Lea and Albert Franklin McCrary; her first husband, John Jacob Lutz, a casualty of World War II; by
her second husband of 52 years, Charles Henry Davis; and by her son, William Henry Davis.
Her survivors include two sons and daughters in-law, John Jacob "Jack" Lutz III of Loudon
and Charles McCrary "Cary" and Judi Hankins Davis of Athens and Nancy Clinton Davis of Knoxville;
her grandchildren, Margaret Elizabeth "Molly" (Davis) Veness and husband, Mark Veness, William
Clinton "Clint" Davis and wife, Brittany (Harper) Davis, Stephanie Carol "Sunny" (Davis) Miller and
husband, Charles Miller and Jonna Lea (Lutz) Freeman and husband, Dennis Freeman; and four
great-grandchildren.
Close friends were invited to join the family Monday morning in Old
Steekee Cemetery for interment. A Celebration of Life and Resurrection was held on Monday afternoon
at the Loudon United Methodist Church with Dr. Tony Collins officiating.

of Mrs. Davis may be made to the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center, Office of Development and
Communications, DUMC 3828, Durham, NC 27710. The family will greet friends following the service in
the fellowship hall.
