Dr. Larry Jackson Hargis, 61, passed away Friday, Oct. 23, 2009.
Dr. Hargis was born May 30, 1948. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hiking, fishing, hunting, snow skiing and the beauty of nature. Dr. Hargis practiced radiology for many years in Athens and Etowah. He also practiced in many other hospitals including Oneida and Montcello, Ky. where he lived for the last 10 years. He enjoyed his home on the creek.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hilman Joe Hargis.
He is survived by his mother, Juanita Lovin Hargis of Knoxville; his brother, Hilman Joe Hargis of Knoxville; and by his daughters, Clara Hargis Phillips and husband, Justin of Austin, Texas and Ariel Hargis of Lenoir City.
The family will receive friends Monday, Oct. 26 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Kyker Funeral Home in Sweetwater. The family will meet at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at New Providence Baptist Church Cemetery for an 11 a.m. graveside service and interment with the Rev. Allan Watson officiating.
