Henrietta McConkey Pugh, 72, of West Knoxville, formerly of Lenoir City, was called home to her Savior in the early morning of Oct. 26, 2009.
Having been diagnosed with cancer from an unknown origin six years ago, doctors originally believed her life-expectancy was eight months. She went through four rounds of chemotherapy over those six years beating it into remission three times. She never complained about the treatments or her circumstance but continued to travel, participate in civic organizations and enjoy and support her family and friends.
It was a true testament to her positive attitude, to her faith in the Lord, to her selflessness, and to her desire to live a God-honoring life. She will be dearly missed. Henrietta was an active member of Concord United Methodist Church, the Symphony League, and the West Moreland Hills Lunch Bunch.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Robert and Virginia Lowry McConkey. She is survived by Will James Pugh, her loving and faithful husband of more than 51 years; her daughter and son-in-law: Linda and Rocky King; her sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Angela Pugh and Mark and Rhonda Pugh; her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Ryan, Will, Carol, Reese and Rylie; her brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Louise McConkey; and by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth and David King and Roberta and Ritchie Kirkpatrick.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday followed by a funeral service at Concord United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brent Hall officiating. For directions to the church contact 966-6728. Family and friends will meet Friday at Highland Memorial Cemetery for a 1 p.m. interment service.
Her family requests memorials to be made to the Helen Ross McNabb Center, 201 W. Springdale Ave Knoxville, TN 37917 –
