The Admirals will be angry when they enter Cecil Thomas Field Friday night to take on the Lenoir City Panthers (2-6, 1-4).
However, the Panthers will have momentum of their own after dispatching William Blount 12-7 last week for their first district win since 2005. Farragut (6-2, 4-1) is coming off its second loss of the season – 35-32 to Maryville – and its first inside District 4(3A) play. Admiral quarterback Reese Browning began last week's game nearly flawless, completing 12 of his 13 passes, but then faltered in the second half, completing 11 of 18 second half passes with two interceptions.
Farragut blew a 24-7 advantage over the Rebels and will now trave to Lenoir City with a district blemish already on the record.
Admiral tailback De'Andre Purty has enjoyed a strong year this season, gaining 633 yards for a 7.9 yard per carry average. Six Farragut tailbacks have carried for an average of six yards per carry or more.
The Admirals' only other loss this season came in middle Tennessee when they fell at Riverdale 20-17. Their wins have come over Dobyns-Bennett 26-8, Oak Ridge 32-7, Catholic 20-12, West 18-11, Heritage 50-7 and Bearden 42-17.
The Panthers have been highly competitive in a number of games this year, but have fallen short in all but two of them. Their wins thus far have come over Sequoyah 28-0 and William Blount 12-7. Their victory over the Governors was the first district win for the Panthers since they won twice inside the district in 2005. That season, they finished 4-6 overall, with wins over Clinton 34-7 and South-Doyle 35-21.
Lenoir City and Farragut haven't faced each other in the past seven seasons. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday night at Cecil Thomas Field in Lenoir City.
