Loudon Municipal Police officers arrested six individuals Wednesday night, confiscated a stash of illegal prescription narcotics and retrieved almost $20,000 in stolen cash. A small child was taken into protective custody by the Department of Children's Services.
Investigator Mike Newman of Loudon Municipal Police Department said police officers were making routine rounds checking city businesses when they became suspicious of an unfamiliar truck and followed it to Country Inn Suites on Highway 72. There, they watched a truck circle the parking lot and saw a woman run from a room to the truck.
When officers questioned the woman, she provided names of other parties at the motel. Officers entered the names into the search engine for the NCIC (National Crime Information Center) computer and discovered two of the people, Daniel Canada and James Huff, were wanted for questioning in connection with a Williamsburg, Ky., home invasion and robbery, in which a safe had been taken.
Those arrested and arraigned in Loudon General Sessions Court Friday included:
• Emily Mefford, 35, of Knoxville, charged with possession of schedule III narotics;
• Daniel Canada, 29, of Williamsburg, Ky., charged with possession of schedule III narotics;
• Janice Kilgore, 49, of Williamsburg, Ky., charged with possession of schedule III narotics; possession of drug paraphernalia;
• Charles Nelson, 52, Williamsburg, Ky., charged with possession of drug paraphernalia;
• James Huff, 41, of Gray, Ky., charged with possession of schedule III narcotics;

Newman said the sixth individual, Huff was treated at Fort Loudoun Medical Center for undisclosed medical condition following his arrest.
When police entered the motel rooms, they allegedly found several dozen hydrocodone pills and $18,862 in cash.
"The lady (Mefford) said she saw the money in a diaper bag," Detective Newman said.
Another person in the motel rooms had $7,000 in cash.
Officers who apprehended the suspects were Sam Harrison, Scott DeBoer and Sgt. Scott Newman.
Loudon Police Chief James "Bear" Webb said officers are on the streets every night, keeping a check on businesses and keeping streets safe.
"This was good police work," Webb said. "People don't realize the kind of things that go on in our town while they are asleep. Our job is to protect our folks from the bad element ... Our officers love their job and community and work hard, keeping a constant vigil. Folks should be aware."
Huff is being held in jail, along with Kilgore and Layne for Kentucky.
Canada, Mefford, and Nelson were released.
