Domination might be too soft a word to describe Loudon's performance Friday night as the Redskins entered Sequoyah and came away with a 41-0 win. The stout Loudon defense allowed the Chiefs to gain just 16 total yards of offense on the night, while keeping quarterbacks Trey Dyer and Kince Rodgers to just one completion in 10 attempts.
Both teams were stymied in their opening drive, but Loudon found paydirt on its second possession. The Redskins took over on the Sequoyah 26 yard line after a short punt and it took one play for quarterback Wade Plemons to hit the end zone. K.C. Rader's point after was blocked, but the Redskins held a 6-0 lead.
Plemons made history with the opening score, as his touchdown broke the 15,000 point barrier in all-time Loudon football history, according to Loudon statistician Bill Brakebill. This was the 805th game in Redskin football history.
Following the history-making TD, the Redskin defense forced a punt and the Loudon offense capitalized. The Redskins moved 78 yards in the drive and Matthew Wallace punched in a one-yard touchdown to extend the lead. Rader hit the point after and Loudon's lead grew to 13-0 with 1:50 left in the opening quarter.
Another punt by Sequoyah turned into points for Loudon as the visiting offense drove 81 yards in 10 plays for the score.
Plemons led the way on this drive, rushing for 48 yards and connecting with Josh Berry for a 15-yard touchdown. Rader again hit the point after and Loudon's lead expanded to 20-0. Loudon's next drive ended on a Plemons interception, but the Chief offense was still unable to move the ball and Loudon re-took possession with 2:56 left in the half.
Plemons once again controlled the drive, completing two passes to DeJay Johnson for 43 total yards. After a Wallace run for a loss of one, Plemons hit Devan Grissom for six yards and then the QB ran for six. With four seconds left in the half, Jake Brown punched in a one-yard run as time expired. Rader's PAT was accurate and Loudon took a 27-0 lead to halftime. The Chiefs were held to minus three total yards of offense in the first half, while Loudon piled up 115 yards of total offense.
Sequoyah took the ball to open the half and, after losing nine yards on the first two plays, Berry picked off a Dyer pass to give the Loudon offense the ball at the host 32.
It took just two plays at this point, as Grissom picked up 25 yards on the first play and then Brown punched in his second TD of the game. Rader's PAT was good and Loudon's lead built to 34-0. Another three and out by Sequoyah gave Loudon the ball and the Redskin offense put together a nine-play, 55-yard scoring drive. Luke Newman capped off the drive, punching in a one-yard run. Eric Newman secured the score with his only PAT.
The Redskins finished the game with 420 total yards of offense, including a season-high 100 yards through the air. They faced just one fourth down all night and held Sequoyah to just one first down – on a personal foul penalty against Loudon.
The Redskins (7-2, 2-2) will finish up the regular season with a key District 4(2A) matchup Friday night against Kingston for senior night. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
